Acknowledging and Transforming the Past

From Maryland Governor Wes Moore

On the morning of my inauguration, we honored the enslaved at the Annapolis docks with a wreath-laying ceremony. We then marched to the State House, built by enslaved hands, where I was sworn in as the 63rd Governor of Maryland.

That ceremony was organized with love and intentionality, to inspire strength. Today, the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and Its Abolition, is a reminder that we must never forget slavery’s profound impact on our history and its influence on our world today. Let’s continue the work of justice and freedom.
